Dark Tints are Illegal in Puerto Rico for Citizens but not for Police

As I made my way to the local postal office this evening to drop off some packages, I happened to noticed an awful amount of cops circulating the area. I must of seen a heard of at least 8 cops within a one-mile span, good gracious It was bad. On my way out of the parking lot, I passed down the road on my way home I noticed some cops get on their motorcycles and follow me. Noticed how I said "some cops" yes that's right. At least 3 cops followed me just to hand me a ticket that my tints were too dark.

In case you weren't aware in some states having tints that are darker than 35 is against the law. As for me when I purchased my vehicle in the states (FL) I stupidly decided I wanted to be like the cool kids and have dark tinted windows and thought I'd be fine and not get caught. Well truth is I got away with it for quite a long time, drove past several cops in FL and here in PR and no one ever said a thing. My luck came to a halt today when I finally got issued a ticket.

The cops were nice enough to be friendly and polite, they told me what the process was to get the ticket taken care of within their grace period.

I had 24 hours to get them removed and report back to the local police station and show them that I had them removed.  In case none of you have been pulled over for tinted windows essentially the cop
pulls out a device, they asked me to roll down my windows half way and they place it in between both sides of the glass. A number pops up notifying them on a scale how legal they are.

Device may vary depending on the region / cop

My advice is to do yourself a favor and check your local law rules before you get your windows tinted. If you purchased your vehicle with tinted windows try to provide as much document and evidence as here in Puerto Rico its 10x harder to do things than in the US mainland. Remember many people here in PR have very dark windows but one day they too will get caught. As for the cops here in PR, they have nothing better to do but to drive around wasting precious time and tax dollars on giving people tickets that are useless. Here I am peeling my own tint off. Its actually quite easy taking it off all you need is a razor blade and some patience. Luckily I only had one of those two, a razor!

I was actually at the police department when I went back to fill out paperwork stating that I had taken the tints off and there was a cop with his own personal vehicle with tints darker than mines. Of course no one can say a thing because they are government employees and basically can do what they please. Puerto Rico lo hace mejor! 💩
